CHRISTOPHER WHEELDON, OBE (Director & Choreographer) trained at The Royal Ballet School and joined The Royal Ballet in 1991. In 1993, he joined New York City Ballet (NYCB) and was promoted to Soloist in 1998. He was named NYCB’s first Resident Choreographer in July 2001. Since then, Mr. Wheeldon has created and staged productions for many of the world’s major ballet companies.

Mr. Wheeldon is an Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet, where he has created many works, including Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Winter’s Tale, both of which were co-productions with The National Ballet of Canada. In 2012, his ballet Cinderella premiered at Het Nationale Ballet. He has also choreographed for the Metropolitan Opera, created ballet sequences for the feature film Center Stage (2000), and Sweet Smell of Success on Broadway (2002), created a special excerpt for the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, and was the Artistic Director for the Fashion Forward exhibition in Paris at Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs (2016).

Among other career highlights: The Nutcracker reimagined for the Joffrey Ballet, Corybantic Games at The Royal Ballet, a re-staged version of Cinderella for the English National Ballet, and Like Water for Chocolate for The Royal Ballet and American Ballet Theater. OscarÓ is his latest full-length ballet for The Australian Ballet, which premiered in 2024.

In 2014, Mr. Wheeldon directed and choreographed the Broadway musical version of An American in Paris, which had productions in Paris, New York, and London. Most recently, he directed and choreographed MJ The Musical (2022). Each won four Tony Awards, earning him two for Best Choreography and an Olivier Award for Theatre Choreographer (2025). The latter is currently on Broadway, touring America, in London’s West End, Hamburg, and Australia.

His many other awards include two Tony Nominations for Best Director, an Outer Critics Award for Best Choreography and Direction, the Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center, the American Choreography Award, the Dance Magazine Award, multiple London Critics’ Circle Awards, the Léonide Massine Prize, the Benois de la Danse, and Olivier Awards for his ballets Aeternum and Polyphonia.

Mr. Wheeldon was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and is an Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Christopher is a dual citizen of the United States and the United Kingdom and resides in New York City.

Producer

Tobias Round – Producer

Tobias Round works from London and New York and is the Producer of Toy Theater Productions. He also owns and runs The Round Company Limited, where he manages elite artists, consults, general-manages, and produces theater, bringing over 30 years of international experience across commercial and not-for-profit sectors. His international career spans theater, musicals, and dance, with a portfolio of critically acclaimed and innovative productions. Round has served on the boards of Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance and Stage One, where he mentored emerging commercial producers.

As an artist manager, Round represents leading directors, choreographers, and designers. He has built their careers through strategic management, major international co-productions, and cross-sector collaborations.

He has produced numerous West End successes, such as An American in Paris (co-producer) in the West End; Di and Viv and Rose directed by Anna Mackmin; Death and the Maiden directed by Jeremy Herrin with Thandiwe Newton; Birdsong directed by Trevor Nunn; The Little Dog Laughed; Three Days of Rain; and the Donmar’s production of Piaf, all directed by Jamie Lloyd; as well as Swimming with Sharks with Christian Slater and Matt Smith. He also produced the Olivier Award–winning The Wind in the Willows, the first-ever West End transfer from the Royal Opera House, and worked at the Donmar Warehouse as General Manager with Michael Grandage on more than 20 productions, including Guys and Dolls with Ewan McGregor, Frost/Nixon, and Mary Stuart. He is a member of the Society of London Theatre, the League of Independent Producers, and UK Theatre.

Earlier in his career, Round worked with Columbia Artists, IMG, and Matthew Bourne’s Adventures in Motion Pictures, managing landmark projects such as Swan Lake and The Car Man. Most recently, he was General Manager of Dominic Dromgoole’s Classic Spring Theatre Company, delivering a year-long Oscar Wilde season at the Vaudeville.

VANSTONE

Jillian Vanstone – Creative Assistant

Jillian Vanstone is a founding member of Toy Theater Productions. An internationally recognized Principal Dancer with The National Ballet of Canada, Ms. Vanstone was acclaimed for her distinctive storytelling ability and exceptional artistry throughout her 22-year stage career. She was celebrated for her interpretation of Alice in Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, performing the ballet’s North American premiere at the Four Seasons Centre in Toronto, Lincoln Center in New York, and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Her repertoire spanned leading roles in classical and contemporary works, including ballets by Rudolf Nureyev, George Balanchine, Frederick Ashton, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, and Crystal Pite, appearing in major cities across North and South America, Europe, Russia, and Asia.

Ms. Vanstone retired from the stage in 2022 with Wheeldon’s After the Rain, and since then has worked internationally as a stager and rehearsal director with The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, Hamburg Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Joffrey Ballet, Wiener Staatsoper, and Queensland Ballet. She has worked as a freelance producer since 2023 with Fall for Dance North and Studio Simkin.

Complementing her artistic career, Ms. Vanstone holds a Certificate in Design Management from Toronto Metropolitan University and is a qualified Leadership Coach. This training informs her approach as both an artistic leader and producer, allowing her to integrate creative vision with organizational strategy and collaborative practice.

Toy Theater Productions, inc is a company established to develop the projects that involve the commercial work of Christopher Wheeldon and to deliver high-quality entertainment projects to their markets. Working in live stage entertainment as well as developing concepts and packaged ideas for other media such as TV and film, Toy Theater Productions will be:

– A creative vehicle for projects led or developed by Wheeldon as director/choreographer.

– A creative vehicle for projects led or developed by Toy Theater Productions as Producer or as Creative Consultant for artists whom Wheeldon may wish to support.

– A company through which to invest in commercial theatrical, TV, and film projects and productions.

– A company through which to commission and acquire rights, and develop intellectual property for the purpose of production.

– A platform through which to provide mentorship for emerging artists.
